The cause of homelessness varies from case to case. From severe mental illness, struggles with addiction, and unemployment there is a wide spectrum of reasons for homelessness. Our company refuses to accept any of these issues as justifiable reasons for why people are left out on the street. As a modern, technologically advanced society, we've come up with many solutions to simple problems and yet, we remain with one constant that repeats itself generation after generation; homelessness. With over 55,000 vacant homes in cook county, according to the census, why is our homeless rate so high?
Until we are able appropriately treat mental illness & drug addiction, treat felonies with fair punishments & provide solutions to aid in their misfortunes, offer livable wages & provide helpful resources to impoverished areas throughout the city, there will be homelessness. It is a shame that this way of living is acceptable. We as people must come together to find simple solutions to this difficult way of living.
At the Together We Feed Chicago Drop-in center, we treat our guests as we would our closest friends. Breakfast is served immediately upon entering. Guests enjoy each others company as well as the company of staff & volunteers. We love helping to complete a good word game & share fun stories of simpler times. There may even be music playing in the background, sounds from the 50's - 70's. Promtly at 12 a full lunch is served. Menus are created at the beginning of each month & a Chef of the Day comes in to bring a special meal. At the Together We Feed Chicago Drop-in center, we serve more than just a meal, we serve dignity & offer hope to those who are often overlooked & shunned.
Most of us are fortunate enough to have a safe place to rest, enjoy company, and raise a family. But for many people, access to something so basic is difficult. We provide a safe place for our unhoused guests to escape the elements and enjoy a meal, Wednesdays from 10am - 1pm 2310 W Ainslie Chicago, IL 60625
Empty stomachs hurt. They break concentration and make the future seem impossible. Giving food is essential to creating health. Far beyond the basics, our kitchen is dedicate to serving hearty, nutritious, meals that delight our guests week after week. It is a custom at our drop-in center to sit & chat with our guests to learn how their week has gone, offer valuable information, & provide a sense of humanity; A simple act which is often forgotten in the homeless community.
We are currently seeking sponsors of meals or donations of food items to help meet these vital needs. Click Here to donate today!
Access to basic resources prove to be stepping stones towards sustainability. We offer help obtaining state IDs, resume writing, and other tools needed to succeed in life. We encourage the homeless to obtain their rightful place in society by following Maslow's hierarchy of needs: Physiological, Safety, Belonging, Esteem, and Self-Actualization.
